Rosie O'Donnell: America's Favorite Grownup Child
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (March, 2001)
Author: Tanya Lee Stone
Average review score:

Allergic to Roses
While not as ambitious as her work in "Toothpaste: From Start to Finish" this book is written in a way that could inspire kids to read. In fact, this may be a great book for some but, the fact that I cannot stomach three continous seconds of anything that has to do with Rosie O'donnell pretty much makes this a no-go for me. I may not like this book, but that doesn't mean your or your child will not. I think book is as good or better than the following titles that you may or may not have read... "Home Surgery:Do-it-Yourself Savings on Costly Operations at Home" "Kids Are Punny : Jokes About Rosie Sent by Kids to the Rosie O'Donnell Show" "The Great Polish Philosophers" "Idiots Guide: Internet Chain Letters" "Idiots Guide: to Dummy Books"

You go Rosie!
Wow!! Rosie is a dynamo and I never knew it! This book is well-written and so interesting that you don't want to put it down. I really enjoyed learning about the fascinating life Rosie has had and her wonderful contributions to society.

Ruskin's Venice: The Stones Revisited
Published in Paperback by Lund Humphries Pub Ltd (October, 2003)
Authors: Sarah Quill and Alan Windsor
Average review score:

The stone that the builders rejected...
I read an original copy, circa 1890. It was a three volume set with beautiful, color stone lithographs and, of course, no editorial abridgement. I gave it away as a gift to a friend wanting to learn about architecture, as the best possible starting point.

I personally have very little patience for people who want to abridge Ruskin's work. And Ruskin's illustrations really make this work.

So, having said this, IF one is willing to overlook these editorial wiseacreings, this book is obviously a classic. It is a marvelous experience to be able to look at a building, any building, when driving or walking down a street, and know the history, name, and significance of each of its facets & adornments.

Unless you happen to live in an area with considerable architectural variety, you will find your newly-acquired skills only serve to confirm your opinion that we live in an age of totally bland and meaningless construction.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Ruskin's Venice
This is a deeply inspiring photographic account of Ruskin's commitment to Venice. It serves as a remarkable and revelatory companion to Ruskin's THE STONES OF VENICE and, to any one who cares about this city, it is an entirely necessary book. It is difficult to imagine how it might have been done better.

A Sculptor's Testimony in Bronze and Stone: The Sacred Sculpture of Avard T. Fairbanks
Published in Hardcover by Eugene F Fairbanks (January, 1998)
Authors: Eugene F. Fairbanks and Avard T. Fairbanks
Average review score:

A fitting tribute to a great artist
The most complete reference of the sacred artwork of Avard Fairbanks. This book describes the sculpture in great detail, along with photos of the works.

Magnificant work! The art work is exceptionally well done.
The contents of this book depict the love and devotion of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as they endured trials and tragedies during the early years of the Church's organization (mid 1800's to mid 1900's). The descriptions given about each piece of artwork are clear and concise. Avard T. Fairbanks was truly a professional in his time. His artwork is thought provoking and provides the reader with a clear insight as to the devotion and hardships the Mormons had to endure. Truly an amazing compilation of sculpture.

Shades
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (05 May, 2000)
Author: Samuel E. Stone

Great undercover Police Novel
I have had the pleasure of reading "Shades" a novel of undercover police work at its finest. The novel has many twists and turns that keep you involved. The author is clearly writing on a topic of which he is thouroughly aware. As a retired police officer I found the book completely compeling and factually accurate as to police proceedure and intellectually stimulating.

I found myself in the story and hated to put it down for any reason. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, adventure, and excitement. It's a great read. I suspect this author is a new Joseph Wambaugh his style and compeling story line is sure to be a best seller.

"Shades" an Exciting Real Life Adventure
I found 'Shades" to be a harrowing tale of deep undercover work where deceit and betrayal lurked around every corner. The characters were real, the delivery sharp, and it was hard to put the book down. I felt as if I was part of the action and the characters were right there with me. It was suspenseful, exciting, yet touching. A Great Read!

Simplicity
Published in Paperback by Paris Pr (February, 1997)
Author: Ruth Stone
Average review score:

One of the greatest poets in the country!
Ruth Stone again and again gets directly to the heart of the cosmos, splitting open the common and revealing the complex meanings and truths in our world. Is her title "Simplicity" tongue in cheek? The poems are often deceptivly simple. You read one easily and are without realizing it, suddenly knocked off your feet by its meaning. Stones poems are not light, they are not frothy. Her work is as heavy as her name yet as comfortable to take in as lemonade on her Virginia porch in childhood. This is a poet who will be remembered and read well into the future.

An excellent collection of work
I happen to be a student of Ruth Stone and it was interesting to finally read some of her work. Everyday she reads our work and tells us what she thinks and this was my opportunity to get the other perspective. I found it fascinating to be able to look into her life (I wanted to say "soul" but she hates that word). My favorites are "Plumbing" and "Nuns on the Bus". She is also a wonderful woman who is dear to my heart and has extremely influenced my poetry and life.

Sins of Blood and Stone
Published in Paperback by Catalyst Press (April, 2002)
Authors: John Urbancik and Michael Oliveri
Average review score:

Stone Prison
This is a solid first book from an aspiring Author. The story is new and fresh and it kept me intrigued through out the entire book. I didn't find a single dull spot and I actually finished it within a day. I will not give anything about the story away just know that I highly recommend this one whether you're a fan of horror or not.
Also recommend The Eternal Battle by another aspiring author Keith Gouveia.

A Writer To Watch
John Urbancik proves himself a writer to watch with his debut novel, Sins of Blood and Stone. The book walks the line between dark fantasy and horror. While religion is featured prominently in this book, this book blurs the line between good and evil and forces us to look deep inside ourselves to see where we might fit in this balance.

Not all mysteries in this book are answered, and that is not a bad thing. I wish that some of the characters had been drawn out more--I wanted to know more about them--and there were other, minor flaws, but Sins is a brilliant introduction to the writing of John Urbancik. I'm really looking forward to Urbancik's next book.

Slime Time (Stepping Stone Books)
Published in Paperback by Random House (Merchandising) (August, 1990)
Authors: Jim O'Connor, Jane O'Connor, and Pat Porter
Average review score:

THE BEST BOOK EVER
I think Slime Time is a cartoon. Its worth1 point and it's a very good book. Two boys win a game show called SLIME TIME His skateboard it got bad over night. The game was on TV. The sisters did not win the game. It's a silly book so if you like a silly book here's the one for you. Getting dunked in chocolate sauce and spread with feathers is for the losing team . Its is a wacky fun filled book.

Best Short Story Of All Time!
I read this book in Elementary School and still remember how good it was! It is written very well and deals with a unique subject, two friends and a "Nickelodeon-type" game show. A toy line called "Dino-Tots" (or something like that) is also featured in this book, with a reoccurring jingle that I'm sure you'll memorize before the end of the book. I wish that this book would go back in print so that I could buy a copy of my own. I also hope that there will be a sequel in the future!

Snake's Daughter: The Roads in and Out of War (Singular Lives)
Published in Hardcover by University of Iowa Press (May, 1997)
Authors: Gail Hosking Gilberg and Albert E. Stone
Average review score:

SUPERB READ
Without self-pity nor malice Gilberg writes of a challenging childhood with two dysfunctional parents. This is far more than a retelling of this family's painful history; it's a book that encourages any reader to look into the deeper reality of the events in their family's life enabling reconciliation and healing to result. Gilberg's honest sharing, laced with love and respect for her father, left this reader glad to have "met" this
man. I like him. And it's a book that will bring some understanding and peace regarding our involvement in Vietnam which I also found helpful.

An Affecting Memoir-- Beautifully written
This is a terrific book, one that works into the memory from a series of photos and a set of fixed memories of a difficult man and a difficult childhood. it's so much more than a tale of dysfunction though. Its the elegant tale of a survivor, of a little girl and a nation.

This book is not getting the attention it deserves!
